Certified Family Peer Specialist (CFPS)
CFPS providers can discuss their experience of parenting a child or teen that has experienced emotional, developmental, behavioral, substance abuse, or mental health concerns. CFPS providers have received specialized training in helping other parents to understand children’s wellness and consult regularly with a Mental Health Professional. CFPS provider’s teach, coach, and mentor parents and caregiver’s to be effective advocates for their own children.
CFPS provider’s offer the following services, please note that this is not a complete list: decision-making skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, self-care and coping skills, advocacy skills, anger management skills, and parent support groups.
The goal of CFPS services is to decrease the stigma associated with behavioral health challenges and promote effective strength-based children’s services that are family driven.
